Overview
A pregnant employee can resort to Maternity leave for an uninterrupted period of eighteen (18) weeks. The first fourteen (14) weeks are paid by the employer, but the weeks beyond the first fourteen (14) weeks are not paid by the employer. Click here to view official sources for more information.
Maternity Leave is different from Parental Leave. Click here to view information on booking Parental leave on Talexio.
Permissions
To assign leave entitlements, either as default leave entitlements or through Custom Leave Entitlement profiles, the permissions Manage Leave Types is required on a Global level.
To edit the leave entitlements of a specific employee, you will need the permission Manage Leave Types on a Global level and Manage All Employee Data over the employee you wish to amend.
Maternity Leave Type & Entitlements
Maternity Leave is a default leave type created on Talexio. There are rules attached to this leave type and so it should not be deleted.
Assigning Entitlements
Entitlements for Maternity leave should be assigned by editing the specific employee's leave entitlements. In cases where an employee's maternity leave spans two calendar years, the entitlement will need to be split between the two years.
Booking Maternity Leave
Once entitlements are set, the leave can be requested in the same manner as any other leave type. The process is shown here.
There are however some features to booking Maternity Leave that do not feature in other leave type requests:
When booking maternity leave, the system will automatically calculate first 14 weeks of maternity leave based on the leave start date. The date range can be adjusted if needed by amending the end date.
During the first 14 weeks of maternity leave, you will receive your full salary, including any adjustments, fringe benefits, government bonuses, and social security contributions.
During the final 4 weeks of maternity leave, you will not receive salary, adjustments, or fringe benefits. However, you will continue to accumulate government bonuses and be responsible for social security contributions.
Public Holidays
If a public holiday falls on a working day or a weekly day of rest (other than Saturday or Sunday, unless your company’s schedule includes weekends as workdays) during an employee's maternity leave, you will be notified about this upon booking the maternity leave. Maternity leave will not be deducted on such days unless the employee's Job Schedule reflects that Public Holidays are working days.
The employee is entitled to an additional day's worth of vacation leave for each public holiday during the period of their maternity leave which will automatically be added to their annual vacation leave balance as an adjustment.
Casual/Irregular Employees
Employees who do not have a fixed schedule will need to manually enter the number of hours they take off each day when booking Maternity leave. An alternative is to add Leave Time Slots which is a quick way of adding a fixed amount of daily hours for casual workers.
