Overview
Paternity leave from work is allowed to all employees who are equivalent second parents, on the occasion of the birth or the adoption of a child, to provide care. The paternity leave is of ten (10) working days, to be taken immediately after the birth or the adoption of the child, without loss of wages. Click here to view official sources for more information.
Paternity Leave is different from Parental Leave. Click here to view information on booking Parental leave on Talexio.
Permissions
To create/amend/delete leave types and to assign leave entitlements, either as default leave entitlements or through Custom Leave Entitlement profiles, the permissions Manage Leave Types is required on a Global level.
To edit the leave entitlements of a specific employee, you will need the permission Manage Leave Types on a Global level and Manage All Employee Data over the employee you wish to amend.
Paternity Leave Type & Entitlements
Creating the Leave Type
Paternity Leave is not a default leave type created on Talexio. This means if needed, you will need to create the leave type first. The steps to follow for creating a new leave type can be found here.
Assigning Entitlements
After the leave type has been created, entitlements can be assigned either through the default leave entitlements, Custom Leave Entitlement profiles or by editing the specific employee's leave entitlements.
Entitlements assigned through the default leave entitlements and Custom Leave Entitlement profiles will also be assigned to other employees at the same time, whereas editing the specific employee's leave entitlements will affect the employee only.
Booking Paternity Leave
Once entitlements are set, the leave can be requested in the same manner as any other leave type. The process is shown here.
Casual/Irregular Employees
Employees who do not have a fixed schedule will need to manually enter the number of hours they take off each day when booking Paternity leave. An alternative is to add Leave Time Slots which is a quick way of adding a fixed amount of daily hours for casual workers.
